Stylish Fall to Winter Shoes Every Woman Needs

Shoes that will be the core of your wardrobe for work and for an evening out.
With the holidays quickly closing in, it's time to take a look at what's hot this season in women's shoes. Yes, you want something fashionable yet comfortable as many of us spend much of the workday on our feet. Here are a few key essentials in footwear that will transition seamlessly from the office to an evening out and more.

The Essential Ballet Flat
The Original Ballet Flat since 1983! These Vanity 4 by French Sole Shoes, NYC are in real black patent Spanish leather and grey printed fabric. These are a beautiful take on the sometimes overly plain ballet flat. So much so that these could also be worn at a business meeting or evening out. Available at Nordstrom, Macy's & Zappos. Elegantly done and comes with a dust bag by French Sole Shoes.

NEW Warm Socks for Your Dress Shoes
In the photo above, I am wearing these NEW KeySocks which work well with let's say these ballet flats and a pair of slacks. The instep is open, but the balance of the sock covers your calves like knee socks. No one will ever know and your legs stay extra toasty warm. A game changer moving from fall into winter, right? Check them out at

KeySocks knee high, no show socks are perfect for the colder days ahead.

Low-Mid Height Block Heeled Pumps
Block heels are everywhere this fall and for good reason. These under 2 inch block heels are much more stable on slick pavements and uneven surfaces. These are the type of shoes that mean "business" as they are a bit dressier than lower ballet flats. Two good examples of these to look for are ones by Gucci, (left) and the slightly dressier Etienne Aigner with the interlocking horseshoe A's and grosgrain ribbon. I've worn Etiennes for years as they are very comfortable and the Spanish leather is nearly indestructible. If you see any Etienne Aigner shoes in your travels, snatch them up immediately. Many don't know about them but they are an excellent shoe. Both shoes in Navy are going to go with a lot in your wardrobe.

Mid Height Block Heeled Patent Leather Pumps
Black patent leather is everywhere this season from bags to other fashion accessories. Now you may think "patent leather" is not REAL leather? Not so. The higher quality shoes ARE real leather under all that gleam so there's no need to pass them over. In fact they hold up better than most shoes in rainy, inclement weather. Shown here below are the 2 1/2 inch heeled Tycoon by French Sole Shoes in Real Leather. The Mary Jane type strap is adorable yet practical especially if you need to walk any distance. Well balanced and elegant, I've paired these shoes with evening appropriate hosiery, namely these black Lace Tights by Hanes. Perfect!

Navy Leather High Heeled Pumps
These are the next "level" of a more formal shoe but is a versatile 5 inch high pump you could wear from the office out to dinner. A very comfortable and balanced leather shoe, the Simone by Sofia-Z Shoes is designed to be enjoyed. Just as women buy Jimmy Choo shoes for style AND comfort, so will you with these Sofia Z's. Suede and Velvet High Heels
You'll see suede everywhere this season with its more fragile cousin velvet showing up at posh holiday parties and dinners. These higher heels are the ultimate in luxury in burgundy suede which should be treated with a water/stain repellent prior to wearing. This will keep them clean and spot free even if you get caught in a little rain. I have full suede cleaning and care tips posted which you can read HERE
Shown below are the Michelle in Bordo Suede by Naturalizer. Don't let the 3 inch heel height throw you off. Naturalizer Shoes have been the staple of business women's outfits for years. One reason is this shoe has their N5 Contour system for extra comfort all day on your feet. Non-slip soles give extra traction on slippery sidewalks.  Available at Macy's, Nordy's or just visit Naturalizer online to see the full seasonal collection.

So there you have my short list of "must have" shoes for your wardrobe moving into winter. Neutral colors are great but don't be afraid to shed the black and try a little navy or a pop of red. People subconsciously notice when you are wearing a cute pair of shoes so these do not disappoint. Even better is each pair was chosen for comfort, style and being suited for the colder weather ahead. Yes, you can have it all. So what is your favorite "go to" shoe for work and or play?
