NEW Designer Fall Suede Booties Plus Care & Cleaning Tips

Suede Booties like these from Rag and Bone as well as Musse & Cloud are trending this fall. 

Fashion Week, NYC is a lovely time to get a peek at street style as show attendees, models and editors like myself run from show to show. One of the trends this fall includes comfy suede booties. I was looking at Rag and Bone's fall collection along with Prada and Givenchy suede booties and noticed lots of fringe along with peep toes. These make for a lovely transition into fall!  Here are some of my favorites along with a few tips at the end of the article on keeping them all clean despite rainy autumns in New York.

Lace Up Front Peep Toe Suede Booties by Prada

Once again these would make for a lovely transitional bootie due to the peep-toe feature. Soft suede with lace up front and buckle cuff are pretty details to look for. Note the suede covered block heels which are everywhere this season.

The thinner stiletto heel and cleaner lines give this suede bootie a more elegant look. Note the cuff and emblem at the ankle. Understated yet simply lovely. Again the peep toe makes it a great transitional choice from late summer into early fall.

As you can see the leather is a bit thicker on these. However they offer head turning details such as an offset ankle cuff and stacked, block heel. No peep toe here means it is perfect for colder days. This boot's heel height is not extremely high so as not to thrust you forward onto the ball of your foot. Check this one out for walking comfort.

The Naomi is a soft, suede fringed bootie with about an inch heel. As they are almost as low as flats but with rubber out soles, these boots are very cushioned. Feels like walking in house slippers! These suede booties come with "fringe benefits"! Fringed suede is everywhere this fall so it's great to enjoy a little around your ankles. Lace up front and suede covered block heel makes this bootie a stand out.

This is another one of my favorites for walking as the heel is not too high but nicely balanced with the sole. A little silver buckle and a delicate amount of lace at the back allow these to have more of an understated "cowboy" effect. Very clean lines with stitching around the vamp.

This designer hails from Spain and while they may be new on the fashion scene, their footwear is built on tradition and quality leather. The Galia have unique fringe placement with embroidery and brass brad accents on the vamp. Soles are thick with stitching throughout, even at the peep toe. Has a mid-height stacked heel.

Another thing that makes the Galia suede peep toe booties special is the zipper at the heel. The leather is very soft so I could imagine it stretching out from being pulled on and off. The back zipper solves this issue. I've worn these a lot and found them to be quite comfortable. Yes, they do turn heads as the fringe shimmies with every step. Fashion Tip: To make you legs look longer and sleeker, get a boot the same shade as your skin and with an open front. The Galia is a perfect example of this effect as you can see in the little video below.

Suede Cleaning and Protection Kit

Protecting Your Suede from Rain and Stains
Keeping your suede free from water stains and other disasters is quite easy. I purchased this little Suede Care Kit from The Walking Company when I purchased a pair of suede boots. It came with a little suede brush, Rain and Stain Leather Protectant and Sheepskin Cleaner which cleans and conditions sheepskin (suede) shoes and bags.

1.) New from the box, give your suede booties a quick brush over. This will dislodge any dust or debris they might have picked up prior to purchase.

2.) Spray the Rain & Stain Repellent Leather Protector over and even under the suede fringe. Let air dry for 24 hrs before wearing. This will keep rain, dirt, mud and food stains from sinking into the soft suede.

3.) If your suede booties get really dirty, use the Sheepskin Cleaner (diluted to half product, half water) with an old toothbrush and give them a scrub. Rinse lightly in cold water and allow to air dry naturally. Brush with a dry suede brush to restore texture.
