NYC Smile Spa is Park Ave. chic. |
Still, many of us freeze up at the very thought of visiting the dentist's office. That fear can also transfer to children, making them reluctant to go as well. This how little problems can become big ones, requiring more intensive procedures in the dentist's chair.
So what if you could imagine your dental visit as more of a trip to the spa? Don't laugh because the NYC Smile Spa located at 30, 60th Street between Park and Madison Avenues, has built their practice on this concept.

Dr. Joshua Perlman
Dr. Perlman, DMD is one of two associates, (the other being Dr. Michael Krochak) located at this office and has been in practice for over 6 years. The office space is well laid out allowing patients privacy in the various state-of-the-art treatment rooms. You can even choose to play with an iPad or wear headphones and listen to your favorite music during the procedures. This is a great way to break the ice especially with children and younger patients who are often nervous enough during such visits.

Dr. Perlman's own anesthetic technique is very gentle and assures a comfortable procedure, so much so that I nearly dozed off in his chair...a first for me. He also takes time with each patient which is important as "bedside manner" still counts for much in a doctor-patient relationship.
I found the entire dentistry team highly trained and accommodating which made the visit itself stress free.

Here are a few things to look for during your next dental check up and or cleaning:
1.) Full Mouth Exam-Your dentist will determine if any x-rays should be taken during the visit based on his visual exam.
2.) Screening for Oral Cancer-A thorough oral exam will include checking for any unusual sores or ulcers in the oral cavity.
3.) Noting of Unusual Bleeding of Gums-A sign of gingivitis or other problems should be noted if and when present.
4.) At Home Care Directions-Depending on your circumstances, your dentist can be very helpful in recommending products for oral care such as dry mouth, sore gums and plaque. This is the time to voice your concerns and get some suggestions for home dental care.
A Note on Cosmetic Dentistry which is often more expensive than cosmetic surgery. It often falls under an elective procedure which means some dental insurance plans may not cover it. This is why it is important to discuss your options and objectives before deciding on anything permanent, even getting a second opinion if necessary.
So during the month of February, check to see if your dentist is offering special grouped services like cleanings and dental exams combined. It will save time and give you something to smile about for the year.
