Model Tricks for smooth, toned and (faux) tanned skin!

Summer is in full swing and you may be thinking about that trip to the beach or a pool party invite. We all need a little extra "buffing up" so are a few tips and tricks from Victoria's Secret runway and swimwear models who have to look good for a living. You heard it here first:

Skin Prep-Exfoliate First
If you routinely practice Dry Skin Brushing, something I've recommended many times here, your skin may not need very much exfoliation. You can skip this section and move on to your cellulite cream application. If not, try a fine scrub with something like aluminum oxide crystals. Bioelixia Exfoliating Body Polish is a good one but there are others. You can also use a Clarisonic with a Body Brush Extension Handle. What you want is everything smoothed down so that the cellulite treatments and self tanners will take evenly.

Try Dry Body Brushing
Using a dry, natural bristled brush, start with the soles of your feet and move up with strokes towards the heart. This is like an external lymphatic massage and is very helpful in removing toxins and increasing circulation. Be sure to include the area of your arm pits and bikini line. Your skin will glow with a healthy pinkness! Jump in the shower to rinse away any excess skin cells you've brushed off. Now anything you apply on your skin will absorb evenly and completely.

The next step after your Dry Body Brushing and shower is to apply a really effective cellulite gel or cream. Even if you do not have cellulite, a product like this can help smooth the skin and add to a sleek body. Now I've tried nearly every cellulite cream out there from Lancome to Embryolisse to ones used exclusively at spas. None have them have even come close to the tightening and smoothing I've gotten from dry brushing PLUS using Sublime Beauty Cellulite Whisperer products. Get That Polished Look
Once your legs (arms too) have been treated with Cellulite Whisperer, you can add your self tanners, shimmers and leg oils. Kate Moss swears by a dry oil by St. Tropez and others rave over Brazil Nut Oil but you can do better with applying some Australian Gold Spray Gel with Instant Bronzer. If you are going to the beach or pool, be sure to add a little protecting oil or cream to your hair. Comb it through and pull it up in a bun and pop on a swim cap if you are going in the water. If you are going to be near the water but not necessarily doing swan dives, you can lightly flat iron your hair with Theorie's Heat Shield Thermal Spray. Holiday Party Prep - Calista Tools Ion Hot Rollers

Model Secrets: Hot Rollers are used backstage at fashion shows for an instant set and style.

Backstage at many NYC fashion shows, you'll see makeup artists and hair stylists busy at work. Let me tell you, it is CRAZY back there and the models need to have their hair ready to go for the next outfit. Curling irons are great but I've also seen hot rollers being used....however not like these!

I have a very lovely old school set of Caruso hot rollers in my closet. I brought them back in the day when I was doing runway work but they never really got hot enough to do very much and they were hard to place in my long hair. I saw these Calista Tools on QVC and really liked how easy and fast they were to get super results. Best of all, you have the option of ordering the blue rollers for longer hair. They worked SO well too! You get 12 rollers and all of them heat at the same time so no waiting or rotating unless you want super tight curls. Using Hot Rollers
The base of the Clasita Tools Ion Hot Rollers has a shut off switch which is unique as most hot roller sets do not. This means you can leave it plugged in and ready to go for an early morning appointment or a quick transition for the evening.  These rollers are VERY easy to put in and even if you're all thumbs like me, you will not burn your fingers. The heating mechanism is inside the roller so you can get them in place without a problem. If your hair in long like mine, you'll appreciate the longer rollers. I was able to do my entire mop in under 15 minutes. As I was putting the last rollers in, I was taking the first ones out. I used them on my hair dry after only a spritz of Garnier Fructis Flat Iron Protectant Spray. The photo above was taken at the end of the day and even the next day, my hair had great body and a bit of wavy curl. If I had used hairspray, the curls would have been more defined and lasted even longer. I've never seen a hot roller set with an option of LONG rollers like this. Why Hot Rollers are HOT (again)!
These rollers are fast and extremely easy to use. I was so impressed with my first try using the long rods. To get the most natural looking curls, alternate the wrapping direction as you go. Fluff or run through the strands after your locks have cooled a bit to release the body and bounce. Hot rollers do not crease or leave indentations in your hair and you can just add wave with body by putting more hair on each curler. As for styling I also like to use a soft Boar Bristle Brush on my hair as it is more gentle and imparts a lovely shine.
