Baobab Based Haircare Line Launches in the West Village

ColorProof Founder & CEO Jim Markham and his beautiful wife Cheryl hosted the cocktail party. 

The West Village, NYC After the most weather-challenged New York Fashion Week in recent history followed by a dismal London Fashion Week, it was great to head downtown to the Bobo Restaurant on West 10th for intimate cocktails.

The event was held in Bobo restaurant's roof-top garden terrace and was surprisingly sunny and warm. Equally so was the welcome we received by hosts, Cheryl and Jim Markham, CEO and Founder of ColorProof hair care products. This was all to launch their new product line, Baobab Heal and Repair.

What is Baobab? 
Just in case you don't remember The Little Prince and his Baobab Tree, this ancient botanical is found in Madagascar, mainland Africa with one species being native to Australia. It is also known by the natives as the Tree of Life and can live to be nearly 3,000 years old. Hardly a new trend but worth noting is how skin and hair care products are including natural, healing botanics. This is good because it can likewise support the flagging economies of third world countries by increasing awareness as to the benefits of organic ingredients in products we use every day. The Baobab tree grows in 32 different countries across Africa and is collected and processed using sustainable harvesting. There is an annual Baobab tree planting and each tree is community owned and wild harvested.

The Baobab Mr. Markham uses in his hair care line is harvested by African based co-ops which employ mostly women. In this era of Fair-Trade suppliers, a co-op can mean that the members have steady work and receive a fair price for their labor. The Baobab fruit is somewhere between a coconut and a pomegranate so it does require care to cold press its nutrients, namely: amino acids, omega fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. Having such naturally derived products available in your shampoo and conditioner can be a major boost to hair health as we use such products nearly every day.

Attendees were encouraged to try out the new ColorProof Baobab based products via a sensory experience.

There are so many products out there but it is great to see a company who is trying to make a difference while marketing their product. I am excited to try these products as we are all given a goodie bag with them at the party. Additionally, ColorProof donated $125 in each attendees name to WorldVison for food and care of a third world family.
